Terms and refunds
Last updated 4 October 2026 (lifetime updates and tips added). Plain English, because this is a small project run by three high school developers.
What you buy
- A Pro key ($1) or an Ultimate key ($5) unlocks that tier's features in Notch Apple, for life. It's a one-time payment: no subscription, renewal or expiry.
- Every future update is included, 2.0 and beyond. Your key never expires.
- An optional tip at checkout is a gift and doesn't change what you get.
- Ultimate includes everything in Pro. Ultimate features marked "coming" arrive in later free updates.
- A key works on up to 3 of your own Macs. Please don't share it publicly: shared keys may be turned off and reissued to the buyer.
- Upgrading from Pro to Ultimate costs the $4 difference.
Paying
- Payments are in Litecoin, sent straight to the developer's wallet. Each order has a unique exact amount; that's how the payment is matched to you.
- Network and exchange fees are paid by the sender. If the wrong amount arrives, open a request and it will be sorted out.
- Prices don't include tax. You're responsible for any taxes that apply where you live.
Refunds
Refunds are handled case by case. Email notchapples.support@gmail.com with your transaction ID. If a refund is given, it's paid in Litecoin to an address you choose, and the key is turned off.
Privacy
- The app has no ads, analytics or tracking.
- At checkout, your email is used only to send your key and for "Lost my key?". It's kept in plain text only until the payment arrives (at most 48 hours); after that only a salted one-way hash is stored, which is enough to recognise you when you ask for your key again.
- Activating a key sends the key and a one-way hash of your Mac, salted per key, to enforce the 3-Mac limit. About once a day, while a key is active, the app downloads the signed list of turned-off keys. Nothing about you is sent with it.
- Only if you turn it on (Settings, off until you say yes), the app sends a random id made on your computer, the app version, the system version and your plan about once a day, so the developers can count users by version and system. It is not linked to your name, email or key, and the server keeps no IP address. If you write a feedback or problem note and press Send, the text you typed is sent too. Turning the setting off stops it; nothing else about you is sent.
- This website has no ads or tracking either.
The software
Notch Apple's code is source-available under the Notch Apple Source-Available License (see the LICENSE file on GitHub): you may read and build it, but not resell it or bypass the licence checks. The Windows app (the NotchWindows folder) is under the MIT licence. Versions published before 9 October 2026 were MIT. It is provided as is, without warranty. Keys unlock features in the official builds.
